Mold pin

Main portion of the mold containing the molding cavity, mold pins, guide pins, etc. 

Sodium lauryl sulphate is used in the production of hard gelatin capsules where it is added to the gelatin solution during the preparation stage. The stainless steel molds are lubricated prior to dipping into the gelatin solution and sodium lauryl sulphate is added to reduce the surface tension of the mix and cause the mold pins to wet more uniformly.f ... 

Side bar n. A loose piece used to carry one or more molding pins, and operated from outside the mold (seldom seen today). 

Figure 11-57. When holes are too near an edge or comer, material may not weld properly around mold pins. Also, the flow of the melt can bend mold pins for blind holes when then-length exceeds a diameter of 2i times and when holes are to be long with small diameters, even if these are anchored at both ends.

Figure 11-65. Holes having molded-in threads or ones that are to receive tapped threads should have molded-in countersinks to avoid chipping and burrs. If a threaded pin is being used to mold threads in a through hole, the lead thread on the mold pin should have a pilot thread for support.
