Mold adapter plate

Adapter plate n. In injection molding, the plate holding the mold to the press frame or platen.

Head n. (1) In any extrusion operation, the delivery end of the extruder, usually fitted with a hinged gate that may contain a breaker plate and screen pack, to which the adapter and die are attached. (2) In blow molding, the entire apparatus by which the molten plastic is shaped into a tubular parison. This may include an adapter, a parison die, and a melt accumulator. 

For PFA, FEP, and ETFE injection molding machines, materials like Xaloy 309 and Bemex C240 can be used for construction of barrels and Hastelloy C-276 for the screw, adapter, and nozzles. The corrosion rate of the mold will be less than the other parts of the machine because its temperature will be lower than the melting point of the polymer. For short production mns, unplated molds of hardened tool steel, or high quality or chrome and nickel plating of the injection mold cavities normally provides sufficient protection. For longer runs, more corrosion-resistant materials of construction may be required.
