Model reticulated

Depending on the application, models of molecular surfaces arc used to express molecular orbitals, clcaronic densities, van dor Waals radii, or other forms of display. An important definition of a molecular surface was laid down by Richards [182] with the solvent-accessible envelope. Normally the representation is a cloud of points, reticules (meshes or chicken-wire), or solid envelopes. The transparency of solid surfaces may also be indicated (Figure 2-116). [Pg.125]

There are two types of foams closed cell foams and open cell (or reticulated) foams. In open foams, air or other fluids are free to circulate. These are used for filters and as skeletons. They are often made by collapsing the walls of closed cell foams. Closed cell foams are much stiffer and stronger than open cell foams because compression is partially resisted by increased air pressure inside the cells. Figure 19.1 shows that the geometry of open and closed cell foams can modeled by Kelvin tetrakaidecahedra. [Pg.203]

The dimensional structure of these materials. If we consider that there is no reticulation, these materials can appear one-dimensional in relation to both charge transfer and vibrational energy. This apparent anisotropy should be considered only local (at a short distance) because the study of conduction phenomena shows an isotropy of transport properties, which is quite well explained with the theory of interchain hopping mechanisms (Kivelson model [22] for solitons polaron lattice introduced by Bredas and coworkers [23,24]). 1 will show that the heterogeneous polymers model may also be used. [Pg.591]

What we have is a world of reticulated models, where no matter which model or description one picks out and tries to say what it is that is being modelled, what is being modelled is itself a model of something else. A model is rarely if ever a model of (part of) the world, but always a model description of a system (model) already described in some other way or constructed for the particular purpose of fitting the model. [Pg.544]
