Model improvement strategies

Depending on the details obtained from the method assessment above, there are several possible actions that could be considered for improving the performance of an existing calibration model

In fact, no model can represent every aspect of an actual production process. Accordingly, the. scheduler must have some flexibility to modify the schedule proposed by the optimization algorithm, based on experience that is gained al.so at the realization of the optimal schedule. This leads to evolutionary improvement strategies starting from approximate optimization techniques. An interactive graphical presentation of the plant should enable quick intervention. 

This improvement strategy involves the reduction of irrelevant information in the X-data, thus reducing the burden on the modeling method to define the correlation with the Y-data. Various types of X-data pre-processing, discussed earlier (Section 8.2.5), can be used to reduce such irrelevant information. Improvement can also be obtained through elimination of X-variables that are determined to be irrelevant. Specific techniques for the selection of relevant X-variables are discussed in a later section. 

The balanced scorecard management system provides feedback concerning internal business processes and external outcomes. To improve performance, continuous improvement strategies are incorporated into the model. The process involves a defining the mission and goals for the organization. As with other performance improvement processes, the activities necessary to meet the goals are developed and measures indicative of that performance identified. The model focuses on a manufacturer oriented (non-grocery) SC, and thus the issues, uncertainties and SCP improvement strategies do not accommodate a retailer oriented SC. 

The SRK model can also be used as part of a approach for the elimination of errors that have serious consequences proactive for the plant. Once specific errors have been identified, based on the SRK model, interventions such as improved procedures, training or equipment design can be implemented to reduce their likelihood of occurrence to acceptable levels. This strategy will be discussed in more detail in Chapter 4. 

Previously, we have shown that functional secretion of OPH molecules into the periplasmic space induced about 2.8-fold higher specific whole cell OPH activity [10]. From the detail reaction kinetic studies in this work, we showed that this periplasmic space-secretion strategy provided much improved bioconversion capability and efficiency ( 1.8-fold) for Paraoxon as a model organophosphate compound. From these results, we confirmed that Tat-driven periplasmic secretion of OPH can be successfully employed to develop a whole cell biocatalysis system with notable enhanced bioconversion efficiency and capability for environmental toxic organophosphates.
