Model Experiments for the Three States of Matter

Problem The idea behind this experiment is to compare the big volume of a gas portion versus the same mass of the liquid or the solid. The increase in volume is shown by strongly shaking the chosen amount of spheres in a large glass bowl. It is however necessary to point out in the model discussion, that in nature there is nobody to do the shaking, the small particles move themselves and independently. Apart from this, in such a model one finds air between the spheres, in the original substance there is nothing between the particles. [Pg.98]

Material Watch glass, large glass bowl, identically-sized small spheres. [Pg.98]
