An 800-gal reactor containing a styrene mixture with a specific heat of 0.6 cal/gm °C has a 10-in. rupture disk and a vent line with equivalent length = 400. The vessel MAWP is 100 psig and the rupture disk set pressure is 20 psig. The styrene mixture had a self-heat rate of 60°C/min at 170°C as it is tempered in a DIERS venting test. Determine the allowable reactor mixture charge to limit the overpressure to 10% over the set pressure.

Table I lists the analysis of a typical coal mixture charged to the ovens. The lower the sulfur content, the lower the HgS concentration in the coke oven gas that must be removed from the gas before it is burned to meet the pollution standards set by EPA, Note that the contracting coals expand somewhat during the coking process before finally contracting. The expansion and contraction of the various coals was determined on the individual coals charged to the small experimental oven. The coal mixture is determined on the quality of the final coke, which must meet certain hardness, volatile matter, ash and sulfur content to be suitable for use in the blast furnace.

It becomes increasingly difficult to handle mixture charges on mills when batch mass exceeds 60 kg, making other techniques necessary, for example stuffing extruders. 

Experimental methods could be considered as either synthetic and analytic or static and dynamic (flow) methods. In the synthetic methods the phase transitions are studied and the p-T parameters of phase transformations are recorded, whereas the compositions of the coexistent phases are determined from the composition of initial mixture charged into the cell. The analytic methods determine compositions of equilibrium phases directly at given temperature and pressure, ignoring the study of phase transitions. The dynamic (flow) methods are distinguished from the static ones by the fact that at least one of the phases in the system is subjected to a flow with respect to the other phase.
