Mixing trough

Hot extrusion. Hot extrusion, which involves heating of the clay by the introduction of steam into the combined de-airing extrusion unit, is primarily aimed at reducing the drying time. Most of the factories in the structural clay industry use the benefits of hot extrusion. The steam is usually added at the mixer via a bottom plate in the mixing trough. As a rule the aim is to reach a column temperature of 50-60°C. 

Pasta products are manufactured continuously by a vacuum extruder, which consists of a mixing trough and press segments. The vacuum is used to retard oxidative degradation of carotenoids. Much effort has been expended to try and produce flat-top foams. In one process polyethylene sheets placed along the side-walls of the trough rise with the foam. In another technique the reactants are metered from the mixing head into a fixed trough in which partial expansion takes place. The foaming material is then drawn over a weir by a moving band of paper and then drawn down a slope so that the top surface maintains a constant level as the material expands.
