Missing-pulse detector

With a few components, the 555 timer can be configured to detect missing pulses in a data stream. The schematic for this type of configuration is shown in Fig. 6.7. 

Looking at Fig. 6.10, we note that removing the pulse train (upper trace) triggers the detection pulses (lower trace). 

The SPICE models were tested slightly differently than the breadboard. The SPICE test schematic is shown in Fig. 6.11. 

The results of the PSpice and Micro-Cap simulations of this circuit are shown in Figs. 6.13 and 6.14, respectively.
