Mining opportunities

Opportunities for easier Mining and Oil Exploration in Permafrost Areas.

The are several clearance and toxicological aspects that have to be considered in the drug discovery process such as metabolic stability, enzyme selectivity, CYP inhibition and type of inhibition. Among these factors, the prediction of the site of metabolism has become one of the most successful parameters for prediction. The knowledge of the site of metabolism enhances the opportunity to chemically modify the molecule to improve the metabolic stability. There are several approaches based on database mining, chemical reactivity, protein interaction or both that have been developed for the prediction of this property, with different degree of success and applicability.

I know some very good black scientists whose careerpaths are almost identical to mine. (Moving from basic research to administration or out of science entirely.)... There is no guarantee that if I had remained in research that I would have been provided the opportunity to work in the frontier research that would have led to consideration for a Nobel Prize. .. I think this is a problem for many very capable black scientists. 

Target Hopping, Cross Reactivity, Selectivity, Opportunity Mining... 

RADM John Pearson, USN (retired) and Prof. A1 Bottoms of the Mine Warfare Association (MINWARA) were instrumental in getting this project started when they provided me an opportunity to chair sessions at the MINWARA conferences in 2002 and 2004.1 initiated contact with several contributors as a result. RADM Pearson also got me the opportunity to be invited to lecture at the Naval Postgraduate School in 2003. I am grateful for both those opportunities, doubly so because that gave us the opportunities to visit our grandchildren. 

Even before 1778, skilled miners were sent from Redruth, Cornwall, to inspect the Lake Superior copper deposits (164). The Medical Repository for 1802 recorded the failure of an expedition to this region. Travellers, it said, have related that there are vast beds of native copper and copper ores of great value on the south side of Lake Superior, within the territory of the United States. A resolution which passed both Houses of Congress in 1800 authorized the President of the United States to employ an agent to ascertain on what terms the mines might be purchased for the government. Because of procrastination this opportunity was lost (165). 

Although Afzelius refused to tell where he had found the mineral, W. Hisinger said that it must have come from a deserted mine at Skrikerum in the North Kalmar district. Berzelius then found specimens of it from this locality in the collections of the Bureau of Mines. Since it had been found at an opportune time, i. e., in time to be mentioned in his original paper on selenium, he named the mineral eucairite. In the same collection he also found a still richer selenium mineral, a copper selenide which is now known as berzelianite (28).
