The ECLP tube press was originally developed for the filtration of china clay but has been used with many other slurries such as those in mining, Ti02, cement, sewage sludge, etc. The typical cycle time is about four minutes or more. 

Flotation or froth flotation is a physicochemical property-based separation process. It is widely utilised in the area of mineral processing also known as ore dressing and mineral beneftciation for mineral concentration. In addition to the mining and metallurgical industries, flotation also finds appHcations in sewage treatment, water purification, bitumen recovery from tar sands, and coal desulfurization. Nearly one biUion tons of ore are treated by this process aimuaHy in the world. Phosphate rock, precious metals, lead, zinc, copper, molybdenum, and tin-containing ores as well as coal are treated routinely by this process some flotation plants treat 200,000 tons of ore per day (see Mineral recovery and processing). Various aspects of flotation theory and practice have been treated in books and reviews (1 9). 

Because of these characteristics electromagnetic flow meters have been widely appHed to the measurement of difficult Hquids such as raw sewage and wastewater flows, paper pulp slurries, viscous polymer solutions, mining slurries, milk, and pharmaceuticals. They ate also used in less demanding apphcations such as the measurement of large domestic water volumes. 

PermeOx is also used to improve the bioremediation of soils contaminated with creosote or kerosene (see Bioremediation (Supplement)), to deodori2e sewage sludges and wastewater (see Odormodification), and to dechloriaate wastewater and effluents. A special formulation of calcium peroxide, made by FMC and sold ia the United States under the trademark Trap2ene, is used for removing metal ions from acidic waste streams such as coal ash leachate and acid mine drainage (see Wastes, industrial). 

Small amounts of cadmium enter the environment from the natural weathering of minerals, but most is released as a result of human activities such as mining, smelting, fuel combustion, disposal of metal-containing products, and application of phosphate fertilizers or sewage sludges (USPHS 1993).
