Mimusops globosa

The hard thermoplastic hydrocarbon obtained from the latex of Mimusops globosa. Balata has the same molecular formula as natural rubber (C5H8)n but has the tram polyisoprene structure whereas natural rubber has c/ s-structure. [Pg.13]

Ketone [638-97-1]. 12-Oleanen-3-one. fi-Amyrone. Constit. of Mimusops globosa. Cryst. (MeOH). Mp 177-179°. [a]o +107.2° (CHCI3). [Pg.578]

Balata bo- lla -to [Sp, fr. Carib] (1860) (1) Dried juice of a West Indian tree Mimusops globosa). It has mbbery characteristics and is sometimes used as a substitute of gutta-percha. (2) Trans-1,4-PoIy (isoprene). (Langenheim JH (2003) Plant resins chemistry, evolution ecology and ethnobotany. Timber, Portland). [Pg.63]
