Milling-machine elements

The main elements of a typical knee-and-column horizontal milling machine are shown in Fig. 11.3. The elements of a vertical machine are the same except that the spindle head is mounted at the top of the column, as shown in Fig. 11.4. [Pg.166]

The column and base form the foundation of the complete machine. Both are made from cast iron, designed with thick sections to ensure complete rigidity and freedom from vibration. The base, upon which the column is mounted, is also the cutting-fluid reservoir and contains the pump to circulate the fluid to the cutting area. [Pg.166]

The knee, mounted on the column guideways, provides the vertical movement of the table. [Pg.166]

A lock is provided to clamp the knee in any vertical position on the column. [Pg.166]

Version (b). This design of meander mixer was actually realized. It refers to a structure with a large number of mixing elements which was micro-machined by precision milling in a plastic material [47]. Irreversible sealing of the channel was accomplished by insertion of a thin PMMA foil via solvent bonding. [Pg.192]

In the following chapters some elements of a paper machine automation system are discussed in more detail. The focus is on QCS and information systems, as they are mainly responsible for the abihty of the mill to maximize quality tons on the reel. [Pg.406]
