Microwave packaging

In summary, headspace concentration method is the usual way of analyzing the odor quality of packaging materials and has been shown to give reliable data which can be correlated with sensory evaluation data. Oven-heated microwavable packaging materials may pose a special flavor problem in the food consumed. 

NatureWorks LLC is also developing grades for microwavable packaging and bottles for packaging oxygen sensitive food and beverages using barrier-enhanced PLA. 

NatureWorks is developing a new generation of PLA that can be used for microwavable packaging. The company has also announced results of research that showed bottles could be used to package oxygen sensitive food and beverages using barrier-enhanced PLA in the future. 

Today SiC thin films (< 1 pm thickness) can also be produced by physical vapor deposition (PVD), for example by sputtering, which method allows lower substrate temperatures, but works more slowly. Electrically conductive B/N-doped sintered aSiC with up to 9weight-% free carbon has been developed as target material, [133]. Novel applications for PVDSiC include films for computer storage media, protective coating for lenses, and microwaveable packaging for food.

Paper/foil and paper/film laminations are used for many appHcations including candy wrappers, microwave packaging, ice cream carton lids, and reflective building insulation. Flexible laminations are multilayered composites, with each each component providing special properties. Examples include snack food bags, aseptic containers sterilized by radiation or heat, meat packages, solar screen laminations, and flexible air ducts.
