Choose a number of samples that will serve as the baseline for appraisals. Samples should reflect a wide spectrum of expected results, with about half meeting the operational definitions established for the metric and half falling short. The degree to which the samples meet or fail the standard should also vary. [Pg.289]

Plugge and van der Vlies have discussed the conformity index (Cl) for NIR analysis of ampicillin trihydrate [12,13]. The Cl is a metric used to determine the degree of conformity of a sample or batch with standards of known and acceptable quality. To use the Cl, reference spectra are first collected and baseline-corrected using a second-derivative or multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) spectrum. At every wavelength across the spectrum, the average absorbance and standard deviation are calculated for the baseline-corrected reference spectra, resulting in an average spectrum and a standard deviation spectrum. [Pg.60]

From Table 4 it is evident that several natural and modified polyanions did not induce insulinoma cell detachment. Furthermore, the DNA content, a quantitative metric of cell viability, was in general near the baseline (100%) observed in the control studies with PBS. In generalboth the cell attachment and DNA indices gave similar indications of cytotoxicity. Therefore, in an effort to unify these measures the third column of Table 4 reports an overall ranking of the polymer... [Pg.35]

The conclusions of these two case studies, which are similar to others I know about anecdotally, is that arguably all the cases represented here are above baseline innovation the patents that have been filed, the companies that have started, and the licenses that have been negotiated are really metrics of productivity that would not have happened in the absence of these intramural programs. [Pg.101]

As with resolution, the ability of a given separative process to divide two analyte species from one another and limit their remixing should have a quantifiable metric this is indeed so. A separative process that can perform that task well is said to be ejficient, and this is quantified by a number, N. In a chromatographic separation wherein all the separation occurs on the column, an efficient column is given a high value. The efficiency of a column is explicitly related to the peak width at the baseline with Equation (11.14) narrower peaks give rise to higher values. [Pg.285]

FVA uses standard forecast performance measurements (metrics) to identify value-added or non-value-added activities in the process that contribute to the accuracy or inaccuracy of the demand forecast. The result is a mechanism that reduces non-value-added touch points, thus improving the overall accuracy. Companies that have successfully implemented FVA have experienced significant improvement in overall forecast accuracy and reduced cycle times. If an activity does not improve the accuracy of the statistical baseline forecast, it should be eliminated, or minimized (simplified), to reduce cycle time and resources. [Pg.135]

The enterprise shall estabhsh, and place under control, the system baseline. This system-level configuration baseline shonld inclnde the system interface specification, the prodnet interface specifications, the system specification, the product specifications, and the integrated database that captures the design, data, models, metrics, changes, design rationale, and other pertinent information on decisions or clarification made to system requirements. [Pg.21]
