Field assessment methods aim to create a more realistic in-service type environment for wood preservatives. However, it is often forgotten that even these tests represent an accelerated environment utilizing smaller timber 

The European Standard EN 599-1 (1996) provides a good description of testing requirements according to hazard class. Similar descriptions may be found which are used on other continents, for example, the American Wood Preservers Association Standards (AWPA). Brief descriptions of test types are given below
