Metallurgical repair

Metallurgical coke gives rise to ferrosiHcon, which in the Hquid phase is more dense than calcium carbide and tends to setde and penetrate the bottom of the furnace. After a lengthy operating period it may extend 30 cm or more below the taphole, eventually reaching the furnace shell where it causes hot spots requiring repair and replacement of the furnace refractory. 

Silicate polymer concrete (SPC) is used in the repair of foundations, for the manufacture of storage tanks for hot and cold acids, equipment lining, reservoirs, and building structures, and as the structural material in vessel heads, vaults, and diaphragms. SPC is of particular interest in precast structures in production of pickling baths for metallurgical plants. 

Petroleum and petroleum products ever more pollute surface and underground waters (e.g. in Bratislava). The source of the pollution of these waters is primarily the petrochemical industry, followed by mechanical and metallurgical industries, motor-car repair shops and service stations. 

With regard to the life-time extension of the FBR Phenix, metallurgical examinations have been carried out on the Steam Generator (SG) in 1998-2000. Some cracks have been detected in the hottest parts of the SG. It has been decided to repair all superheater and resuperheater of the SG.
