Metal building block

The thermally stable tripodal tris]amido)methalates of the group 14 element can act as metal building blocks [239, 240] in the synthesis of heterometallic systems... 

The crosslinking of polymer 6 already works with 0.01 weight percent of transition metal complexes applied. By raising the amount of suitable metal complexes in the polymer, hybrid polymers are obtained in which transition metal building blocks are incorporated into the polymeric hydridocarbosilane to form organosilicon-metal polymers [7b, 10]. 

Carbosilane dendrimers containing titanium and zirconium complexes on their periphery have been prepared and used in olefin polymerization reactions.Generally, the best synthetic route to these materials involves the synthesis of generations of suitably functionalized dendrimers to which the metal is added in the final step giving products such as 276. Routes involving the incorporation of pre-metallated building blocks gave only low yields of the desired dendrimers. 

Further examples of the modular Tinkertoy approach includes the synthesis of (hetero)penta- to nona-metallic complexes. An important family of Tinkertoys are halide-, pseudohalide-, cyanoacetylide-, heterocyclic- and/or di- and tricarboxylic acid-funtionalized transition metal building blocks.
