It is evident that a completely consistent classification of organic-inorganic mesoporous hybrid materials based on silica is hard to deduce. Before we proceed, some (hopefully) clarifying remarks on this issue will be made. 

Since the discovery of this first benzene-bridged mesoporous hybrid material with crystal-like pore walls, the series of organosilica precursors that give PMOs exhibiting molecular-scale periodicity was considerably extended. Kapoor et al. demonstrated with the formation of PMO products from the precursor 1,3 -bis(triethox-ysilyl)benzene (10) that a crystal-like organization of the organic bridges within the pore walls is not restricted to linear-substituted precursors.264...

MMA, and St from magnetite nanoparticles functionalized with an organophosphono initiator, was reported by Babu and Dhamodharan [107c]. Mesoporous hybrid materials made of mesoporous silica and a covalently grafted polymer with controlled chain length were successfully synthesized by surface-initiated ATRP of St and MMA [107d].

We described the preparation of mesoporous hybrid materials containing bridged metal (Cu Co Gd ) cyclam complexes inside the silica framework. 

Thus, we developed successfully a stable well-defined catalytic hybrid nanomaterial that is highly active in the metathesis reaction of functionalized olefins. This material was achieved by generating well-defined ruthenium-A -heterocyclic carbene ligands (Ru-NHC) supported systems perfectly dispersed in a mesoporous hybrid material and farther stabilized by surface ligands (Scheme 12.20).

Indirectly detected, through-bond NMR correlation spectra between C and H nuclei are reported in solid state. The capabilities of the new method are demonstrated using naturally abundant organic-inorganic mesoporous hybrid materials. The time performance is significantly better, almost by a factor of 10, than in the corresponding detected experiment. The proposed scheme represents a new analytical tool for studying other solid-state systems and the basis for the development of more advanced 2D and 3D correlation methods.
