Mesityl complex

The V(mes)3(THF) (mes = mesityl) complex displays a reversible oxidation at —0.25 V versus Cp2Fe/THF, and a reversible reduction at —2.50 V versus Cp2Fe/THF although the latter appears to have slow electrode kinetics [47]. If the atmosphere is switched from Ar to N2, new electrochemical features appear. CV and bulk electrolysis studies showed that the new electrode product was [(mes)3 V — N = N — V(mes)3] . This species can be oxidized to a monoanion at —2.25 V versus Cp2Fe/THF and reduced to a trianion at —2.81 V versus Cp2Fe/THF. The mesityl complex [(mes)Os(C2H4)(CH3CN)] results in addition of benzene when irradiated with ultraviolet light in benzene solution (Fig. 19) [103]. Photolysis of the complex in perdeuterotoluene in frozen matrices results in D atom abstraction. Photolysis of Os(VI) dioxo complexes such as [0s(0)2(Bu-salch)] (Scheme 1) with olefins yields epoxides, in one instance with some degree of chiral selectivity [104],... 

Its crystal structure shows a beautiful Au6Ag wheel in which the six gold atoms form a hexagon with the silver atom in the center (Fig. 26). As observed in other aryl bridging complexes,27 83 110 143 145 the planar tris(isopropyl)phenyl groups are nearly perpendicular to the mean plane through the metallic atoms. The Au-C distances, with values between 2.111(7) and 2.200(7) A, are also similar to those in the previously mentioned mesityl complexes.

Whereas there are numerous such examples for Ni°, they are rare for Nin. Examples are the dialkylamides [Ni(NR2)3] and Ni2(/u,-NR2)2(NR2)2, as well as the blue mesityl complex [Ni(mes)3] which has an approximately T-shaped geometry.4... 

HN(t-Bu)COC6H2Me3. t-Butyl isocyanide also inserts into the chromium-carbon bond of the mesityl complex, but only a single insertion is observed, and Cr(=N-t-Bu)2 ] -[t-BuN=C(C6H2Me3)] (C6H2Me3) is formed. An -aminoacyl is also the product of the reaction between Cr(=N-t-Bu)2Cl2(t-BuNC) and methyllithium. Presumably, methyl replaces one of the chlorides, then migrates to the isocyanide carbon to give Cr(=N-t-Bu)2 [ 2-[t-BuN=C(Me)] Cl].
