Hanford and Davies (1958) showed that a partly purilied extract from pea epicotyls converted phosphoglycerate to phosphoserine. The reaction was dependent on NAD, glutamate, and pyridoxal phosphate. The first step was presumably catalyzed by phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase and the second by glutamate phosphohydroxypyruvate aminotransferase. Such a phosphoserine aminotransferase was present in extracts of pea seeds, leaves, and apical meristems (Cheung et al., 1968). Little is known of phosphoserine phosphatase in plants, but its presence in spinach leaves is reported by Larsson and Albertsson (1979). 

Partial integration is achieved internally through plasmodesmata (cytoplasmic connections between cells). Hence, the external release of compounds during assimilation, as responses to stress, and for the development of lignocellulosic structures is of considerable interest. For the latter, the unusual release of nitrogenous compounds must eventually relate to the well-being of plants, the origin of secondary meristems, and the amplified production of wood, fiber, and extractives. 

For lipid analysis the basal part /O - end of coleoptile sheath/ of oat and wheat plants and the youngest leaves around the apical meristem of pea plants treated /oat and wheat 10 nmol/plant 19 hours before, pea 20 nmol/plant 48 hours before/ and not treated by haloxyfop-ethoxyethyl was used.
