Merck summary

The Novasep team in 1994, successfully resolved 2 kg of racemic binaphthol per day on a Pirkle-Type 3,5-DNBPG CSP (Merck KGaA, Germany) using a Licosep 8-200 SMB system (Summary report on the BRITE-EURAM project BRE2-CT92-0337). 

Although there are veterinary medical reasons for the treatment of animals with hormones, the majority of use in animal agriculture is for an economic reason, i.e., increased growth rate. The Merck Veterinary Manual (1991) presents a summary of some of the applications of hormones in various classes of cattle (Table 12.7). 

DeVries et al. (67) reported the summary of studies by a number of collaborating laboraties for the HPLC assay of vitamin D in multivitamin preparations. Saponification and a reverse-phase Merck LiChrosorb RP-8 column were used for sample cleanup. The analytical column was a Partisil , 5 nm column (Whatman, Clifton, N.J.) with hexane-amyl alcohol (99.65 0.35%) as the mobile phase. The cleanup procedure although a deparature from the usual analytical methods, was incorporated to ensure predictable, interference-free vitamin D assays (D2 and D3 co-elute).
