Memory term, integrated

The integrals, Eqs. (B.3), exist quite generally by closing the contours C in the lower and upper complex planes, respectively, for extensions to the nonself adjoint case, see Figures 2.4, 2.5 and Appendix D. The retarded-advanced formulation including memory terms becomes... [Pg.89]

It is now straightforward to integrate these equations of motion since the memory term has disappeared via the auxiliary variable z. Extensive use of this trick has been made for the GLE see for example Ref. 59. [Pg.626]

Actually, some fluids and solids have both elastic (solid) properties and viscous (fluid) properties. These are said to be viscoelastic and are most notably materials composed of high polymers. The complete description of the rheological properties of these materials may involve a function relating the stress and strain as well as derivatives or integrals of these with respect to time. Because the elastic properties of these materials (both fluids and solids) impart memory to the material (as described previously), which results in a tendency to recover to a preferred state upon the removal of the force (stress), they are often termed memory materials and exhibit time-dependent properties. [Pg.59]

A typical neuron consists of a cell body and an axonal projection through which information in the form of an action potential passes from the cell body to the axonal terminal. Information is received by the cell body via a complex array of dendrites which make contact with adjacent neurons. The structural complexity and the number of dendritic processes vary according to the type of nerve cell and its physiological function. For example, the granule cells in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus (a region of the brain which plays a role in short-term memory) receives and integrates information from up to 10 000 other cells in the vicinity. [Pg.16]

A new integrator offers full compatibility and support of the HP 6890 series GC features, and includes gas-saver mode, split valve control and post-run programming. It also contains two new industry-standard Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) slots to accommodate long-term data storage and prints the run-deviation log after each analysis. [Pg.123]

So it would appear that the brain alertness systems can either be cranked up to a hyperattentive level such that one hears voices and ascribes malevolent intentions to them, or cranked down to so low a level that intrinsic pseudo-sensory signals cause us to see and feel things that we cannot integrate cognitively because our short-term memory capacity is simultaneously disenabled. [Pg.302]
