The amino acid substrates that are most recognized by Y-glulamyltranspeplidase are cysteine, glutamine, methioniney alanine, and serine. The products of the reaction, apparently, are efficiently transported into the epithelial cell, and then broken down into their constituent amino acids in the cell. The elucidation of the series of reactions involving formation of the y-glutamyl-amino acid, absorption of the products, hydrolysis of the products, and ro-formation of glutathione was mainly the work of Alton Meister (Meister, 1989). [Pg.837]

The literature on T.s. up to 1972 has been reviewed by CYanofrky LP.Crawford in The Enzymes, pp.1-31, vol VII, 3rd. edtn. (1972), edit. P. D. Boyer, Academic Press. The review by E.W. Miles (pp.l27-186 in Advances in Enzyrmtlogy (1979) vol 49, edit. Alton Meister) deals with studies on the catalytic mechanism and structure of the enzyme up to 1979, but not with the genetic analysis. [Pg.697]

In addition, the laboratory was visited for shorter periods by several scientists who wished to become familiar with the preparation and use of bacterial mutants. I recall Drs. Bruce Ames, Sam Aronoff, Alton Meister, and Dan Rudman there may have been others. [Pg.3]
