Medium 7-Membered ring

The intramolecular allylation of soft carbon nucleophiles with allylic acetates as a good cyclization method has been extensively applied to syntheses of various three, four, five and six-membered rings, and medium and macrocyclic compounds[44]. Only a few typical examples of the cyclizations are treated among numerous applications. [Pg.299]

Cyclopropanes can also be obtained by the reaction of vinyltrialkylborates with aldehydes followed by treatment with phosphoms pentachloride and base (300), and by the rearrangement of 5-substituted alkynyltrialkylborates (308). It is also possible to utilize this approach for the synthesis of five- and six-membered rings (3). Trans-1,4-elimination ia cycHc systems leads to the formation of stereodefined acycHc 1,5-dienes or medium-ring dienes, depending on the starting compound (309). [Pg.317]

The chemical properties of cycHc ketones also vary with ring size. Lower members (addition reactions, than corresponding acycHc ketones. The Cg—C 2 ketones are unreactive, reflecting the strain and high enol content of medium-sized ring systems. Lactones are prepared from cycHc ketones by the Bayer-ViUiger oxidation reaction with peracids. S-Caprolactone is manufactured from cyclohexane by this process ... [Pg.500]

The conversion of small rings to smaller ones, without loss, is not common. 3-Chloroazetidine isomerizes reversibly to 2-chloromethylaziridine (Section 5.09.2.2.5). Flash vacuum pyrolysis can convert isoxazoles to azirines (Section 5.04.4.3). More common is the isomerization of medium-sized, i.e. five- or six-membered rings, e.g. certain succinimides (Scheme 23) (81JOC27) to azetidinediones, or bicyclic 1,2-dioxetanes to bis-oxiranes (Section 5.05.4.3.2). [Pg.42]

II. Cycles of Medium Size (Seven- to Nine-Membered Rings)... [Pg.5]

In its present form, intermediate 12 is not a viable substrate for the crucial Dieckmann condensation it must undergo prior epimerization at C-16. When intermediate 12 is treated with sodium methoxide in hot methanol, enolization at C-16 occurs and an equilibrium is established between 12 and a diastereomeric substance, intermediate 11. Once formed, 11 can either revert back to 12 through the planar enolate form, or it can participate in a productive cyclization reaction to give a new six-membered ring. Under these conditions, the desired transformations take place with exceptional facility to give, after acidification of the reaction medium, enol ester 10. [Pg.32]

In this beautiful synthesis of periplanone B, Still demonstrated a classical aspect and use of total synthesis - the unambiguous establishment of the structure of a natural product. More impressively, he demonstrated the usefulness of the anionic oxy-Cope rearrangement in the construction of ten-membered rings and the feasibility of exploiting conformational preferences of these medium-sized rings to direct the stereochemical course of chemical reactions on such templates. [Pg.219]

The use of cycloadditions for synthesizing medium-sized ring lactams is more or less restricted to the generation of seven-membered rings. The simplest method to generate azepinones seems to be the [6-1-1] reaction of a 1,6-dicar-boxylic acid chloride 148/152 and a phosphinimine 149, the in situ formed chloro enamine 150 underwent a Chapman rearrangement to give a cyclic imide 151/153 (Scheme 28)] [36]. [Pg.150]
