Median, All

Bends, hills, right-turn accesses and obstmctions on the median all lead to a slightly increased accident risk, all else being equal. [Pg.42]

We have implemented all segmentation techniques described above, in an interactive software. The operator can chose and adapt the appropriate segmentation technique with the desired parameters. Some geometrical features can be extracted using a contour following such as length, width, surface, form, median axes of the selected defect. The selection is easy and can be done interactively using the mouse. [Pg.529]

The median of a set of numbers arranged in order of magnitude is the middle value or the arithmetic mean of the two middle values. The median allows inclusion of all data in a set without undue influence from outlying values it is preferable to the mean for small sets of data. [Pg.192]

As shown by Examples 4.1 and 4.2, the mean and median provide similar estimates of central tendency when all data are similar in magnitude. The median, however, provides a more robust estimate of central tendency since it is less sensitive to measurements with extreme values. For example, introducing the transcription error discussed earlier for the mean only changes the median s value from 3.107eto3.112e. [Pg.55]

If the mean or median provides an estimate of a penny s true mass, then the spread of the individual measurements must provide an estimate of the variability in the masses of individual pennies. Although spread is often defined relative to a specific measure of central tendency, its magnitude is independent of the central value. Changing all... [Pg.55]

Zinc, like most metals, is found in all natural waters and soils as well as the atmosphere and is an important trace element in plant and animal life (see Mineral nutrients). Rocks of various kinds contain 20—200 ppm zinc and normal soils 10—30 ppm (average ca 50 ppm) in uncontaminated areas. The average zinc content of coal is 33 ppm. Seawater contains 1—27 )-lg/L (median ca 8 p.g/L), and uncontaminated freshwater usually <10 / g/L. [Pg.396]

This is not the median number of persons in all agencies, since some agencies do not utilize categories. [Pg.439]

The mean core damage frequency from all internal events is 1.8E-4/yr, with an error factor (95% percentile divided by the median) of 5.0. The percentage contributions to the core dai e frequencies are Large Reactivity Insertion 28% Large LOCA, 28% Reactivity Insertion L P ramp, 12% Spurious/normal shutdown, 11% Loss of commercial power, 10% and others, 5 ... [Pg.410]

The median lethal dose of lunacrine hydrochloride is 78-7 3-8 mgm. per kilo given intravenously in mice. Oral doses of 1 gramme of lunamarine are not fatal. The m.l.d. of lunacridine by mouth is 1,097 167 mgra. per kilo. Limamarine stimulates isolated rabbit intestine and uterus, but lunacrine and lunacridine inhibit peristaltic movement of the isolated intestine. All three alkaloids reduce arterial blood pressure in cats. ... [Pg.752]

Two or more lines are concurrent if there is a single point which lies on all of them. The three altitudes of a triangle (if taken as lines, not segments) are always concurrent, and their point of concurrency is called the orthocenter. The angle bisectors of a triangle are concurrent at a point equidistant from their sides, and the medians are concurrent two thirds of the way along each median from the vertex to the opposite side. The point of concurrency of the medians is the centroid. [Pg.5]

There are several significant permit conditions. As with all other OCS permits, the discharge of oil-based muds is prohibited. Similarly, the permit does not unconditionally authorize the discharge of any of the eight generic muds. Their discharge is subject to limitations on additives. To monitor the use of mud additives, the permit requires the additive not to drop or to decrease the 96-hr median lethal concentration (LC ) test below 7,400 ppm on the basis of the suspended particulate phase or 740 ppm for the whole mud. This parameter is based on a test of Generic Mud 8, which is formulated with 5% mineral oil. [Pg.685]

The median diameter is a measure of the general size level, whereas the standard geometric deviation is a measure of the degree of uniformity. A completely uniform material (all particles the same size) would show up as a horizontal line in Fig 3 and have a standard geometric deviation of 1,0. A completely heterogeneous material would be represented by a vertical line which would have a standard geometric deviation of infinity... [Pg.497]

It is remarkable that, except for local hot-spots such as around industrial sites, mining areas and volcanoes, the elemental compositions of atmospheric dust in similar locations, such as remote or rural or urban are relatively constant over the world. This suggests either common sources, or a dominant source, or good mixing and transport of the dust around the globe. In fact all three factors have a role in determining the uniformity. Because of the consistent composition it is possible to estimate the median concentrations of the elements in atmospheric dusts in similar, but widely separated, locations. These estimates are given in columns 2 to 7 in Table n. The concentrations of the elements in the atmospheric dust are expressed as mass per volume of air. For remote locations (columns 2 to 5) the concentrations are in ng m 3, whereas for rural and urban areas (columns 6 and 7) the elemental concentrations are in xg m-3. [Pg.119]

Calculate all deviations (jc(i) - jc ), and sort according to absolute size calculate the median average deviation MAD calculate cut-off limits for outliers according to Huber i by assuming the recommended value for Huber s k (3.5). Different values for this multiplier can be selected. Display the cut-off limits and the clipped data set. [Pg.373]

Junghans and Siebler reported a series of 24 patients with recent stroke or TIA due to LAA and detected ES on TCD who were treated acutely with intravenous tirofiban, a GP Ilb/IIIa receptor antagonist. Median ES rate at baseline was 38 signals per hour. ES were abolished by tirofiban in all patients, and returned following cessation of infusion. Although preliminary, these data support the rationale for trials of acute GP Ilb/IIIa receptor blockade in patients with recently symptomatic LAA awaiting CEA. [Pg.151]

In contrast, in Southwest Japan, polymetallic veins (so-called xenothermal-type deposits in the sense of Buddington (1935) or subvolcanie hydrothermal type in the sense of Cissartz (1928, 1965) and Schneiderhohn (1941, 1955) occur. Examples of these deposits are Ashio, Tsugu, Kishu and Obira. All these vein-type deposits have formed at middle Miocene age in western part of Tanakura Tectonic Line under subaerial environment. In these deposits, many base-metal elements (Sn, W, Cu, Pb, Zn) and small amounts of Au and Ag are concentrated. These deposits are associated with felsic volcanic and plutonic rocks along the Median Tectonic Line (MTL) or south of MTL. [Pg.231]
