Mechanisms and Kinetics of Sintering

The purpose of this review is to summarize briefly what has been learned from experimental studies of supported metal catalysts regarding the mechanisms and kinetics of sintering. A monograph [1] and recently published reviews [2-4] provide more comprehensive analyses of kinetic data and mechanistic information obtained from model supported catalysts [2] and commercially-relevant real supported metal catalysts [3,4]. The discussion in this paper focuses on die effects of temperature, atmosphere, and catalyst properties on the kinetics of sintering of the latter group of catalysts.
