Mechanical properties impact

For the same grade with the same thickness, the three indices can be identical (for example, a polyethylene grade with a 50° C UL index temperature) or different (for example, a polyamide grade with a temperature index varying from 75°C for the electrical and mechanical properties, impact included, up to 105°C for the electrical properties only). 

Polycarbonates are used in optics, transparent technical parts, aesthetic applications and protection devices for their transparency, mechanical properties, impact resistance, rigidity, good creep behaviour, fatigue resistance, insulating properties, dimensional stability, low moisture uptake, broad range of service temperatures (-100°C up to -i-135°C),food contact and sterilization possibilities for suitable grades.

Furthermore, mechanical properties of some cured resins having structures which cannot be presumed from initial resins are also discussed. Among the mechanical properties, impact strength is related to P dispersion at around —50 °C rather than to dispersion (TJ. 

Blending is an economically viable, versatile method of manufacturing new materials with a wide range of properties [Utracki, 1987, 1993 Rauwendaal, 1986]. The parameters most frequently targeted for the improvement by blending are the mechanical properties, impact strength, processability, heat deflection temperature, and the cost-to-performance ratio.

For noncompatibilized PP/PC blends, the compositional dependence of the heat deflection temperature (HDT), modulus, yield and frachue strength showed a negative deviation from additivity. Addition of a compatibilizer improved the blend performance. Excellent mechanical properties, impact strength, HDT, moldability, and solvent and chemical resistance have been claimed for compatibilized blends containing 5-95 wt.% of either PP or PC. The best overall effects were observed using poly(propylene-g-styrene/acrylonitrile). 

An unaccelerated non-thixotropic, DTD approved, tough, orthophthalic resin offering excellent mechanical properties, impact resistance and electrical performance. Recommended for the manufacture of mouldings for land transport, marine and industrial application. Suitable for hand-lay, RTM, filament winding and pultrusion. 

If the above statements are correct, the additive should not affect most mechanical properties. Impact resistance may be an exception to some degree because it is sensitive to any imperfections in the material, and incompatible material may cause formation of such imperfections. 

Vitamin E stabilized and melted samples display the better oxidative stability. However, the stabilization by vitamin E is possible without changing the polymer morphology i.e. altering some of the other mechanical properties (impact resistance. Youngs modulus, fatigue crack resistance...).
