Characteristic Mechanical Properties

They exhibit mechanical properties characteristic of the solid state. 

Mechanical properties per se concerns with the qualities which determine the behaviour of a material towards applied forces. The ability to support weight without rupture or permanent deformation, to withstand impact without breaking, to be mechanically formed into different shapes - all these depend upon a combination of mechanical properties characteristic of metals. Four types of behaviour of a material under stress are very important linear or elastic behaviour, plastic behaviour, creep behaviour and fatigue behaviour. 

Copolymers with longer polyene segments were found to be insoluble in the reaction solvent (toluene). In these materials, the polyacetylene fraction was crystalline (97). Copolymers with a low acetylene content were composed of a variety of isolated crystalline structures within an amorphous matrix, whereas those containing 50% or more polyacetylene had a morphology that resembled fibrillar polyacetylene. Dried copolymer solutions and suspensions gave blue films with the mechanical properties characteristic of the carrier polymer. No increase in environmental stability was observed. 

Similarly to condensed phases, the adsorption layers have some specific mechanical properties characteristic of their phase state. The tests of 20- to 26-mm plates of USSR alloy AMg6 and U. S. alloy 5083 showed that they possess good mechanical property characteristics for applications in welded structures for cryogenic service to 77 K. 

Although chemically identical to plant cellulose, the cellulose synthesized by bacterial has a fibrillar nanostructure which determines its physical and mechanical properties, characteristics which are necessary for modem medicine and biomedical research [2, 3].
