Separate the Most Plentiful Components Early. Components comprising a large fraction or the feed shouid be removed first. Clearly, the separation lond will depend on the amount of materia] to be processed. By reducing the amount of this material early in the sequence, processing costs can be cut.

Raw Materia] and Product Storage are on-site storage facilities for raw materials and for product. Commonly, when on-site storage is required, storage capacity is provided for 30 days, or more, of raw materials or product. Typical storage investment costs are 90/t of material for bulk storage and 140/t for bagged material, If dehumidified starve is necessary, these costs are about 10% hicher. 

These facilities are economically attractive despite the costly plastics because they are simple, there is often no secondary settler and, theoretically, no frequent measurement. In practice however, difficulties in operating some of them have caused the bed mass to become clogged in the space of a few months. As a result, the bed materia has had to be cleaned either in situ or after removal from the unit.
