Mate choice reproductive assessment

Due to their strong reproductive investment, female crayfish are expected to be highly selective in the choice of the mate. Female quality assessment could include size and dominance status of males, which both affect the resource holding potential... [Pg.268]

The relatively small number of HLA haplotypes indicates that the Hutterites, as compared with outbred populations, have an increased opportunity to choose a mate with an HLA haplotype that is identical at all loci between HLA-A and HLA-DQ (Figure 1) by virtue of the haplotypes being identical-by-descent from the same common ancestor. Thus, this population provides an unusual opportunity to assess the effect of matching for HLA genes and haplotypes on the choice of a mate and of HLA mating types on the reproductive performance of couples. [Pg.190]
