Matched generation

For every match, generate some output from the classifier and attempt to place the output on the output list. [Pg.269]

While generation of sum frequencies yields tunable ultraviolet radiation by mixing the output from two lasers in the visible range, the phase-matched generation of difference frequencies allows one to construct tunable coherent infrared sources. One early example is the difference-frequency spectrometer of Pine [5.277], which has proved to be very useful for high-resolution infrared spectroscopy. [Pg.349]

In experiments with the field-induced SHG we always tried to obtain the phase-matched generation, having in mind to study the zero-field SHG in the same synchronism directions when the external field is switched off. The search for zero-field SHG in the phase-matched conditions increases markedly the sensitivity of an experimental set-up and allows the pump beam intensity to be lowered. The study of the field-induced SHG was also used for the calculation of the number of parameters of the liquid crystalline medium (a cubic non-linear susceptibility a quadratic hyperpolarizability " and the discussion of their connection with molecular structure. In contrast to isotropic liquids, the value of Fy / depends not only on molecular parameters but on the orientational order parameters P- and (P4) of liquid crystal as well. The latter opens the possibility to measure (P2) and (P4). [Pg.84]

Find a way to overcome the constraint while still maintaining the areas. This is often possible by using indirect heat transfer between the two areas. The simplest option is via the existing utility system. For example, rather than have a direct match between two streams, one can perhaps generate steam to be fed into the steam mains and the other use steam from the same mains. The utility system then acts as a buffer between the two areas. Another possibility might be to use a heat transfer medium such as a hot oil which circulates between the two streams being matched. To maintain operational independence, a standby heater and cooler supplied by utilities is needed in the hot oil circuit such that if either area is not operational, utilities could substitute heat recovery for short periods. [Pg.184]

The reservoir model will usually be a computer based simulation model, such as the 3D model described in Section 8. As production continues, the monitoring programme generates a data base containing information on the performance of the field. The reservoir model is used to check whether the initial assumptions and description of the reservoir were correct. Where inconsistencies between the predicted and observed behaviour occur, the model is reviewed and adjusted until a new match (a so-called history match ) is achieved. The updated model is then used to predict future performance of the field, and as such is a very useful tool for generating production forecasts. In addition, the model is used to predict the outcome of alternative future development plans. The criterion used for selection is typically profitability (or any other stated objective of the operating company). [Pg.333]

Quaternary Ga In j.As jPj, grown on InP is of major importance to fibre-optic communications. In quaternary compounds, both the gap and the lattice constant can be tailored by changing the chemical composition. In thick layers, in order to avoid the generation of strain-induced defects, care must be taken in adjusting the ratio of x and v to maintain the lattice-matched composition x = 2.2v. The available gaps range from 1.34 eV in InP to -0.75 eV in... [Pg.2880]

Backbone generation is the first step in building a three-dimensional model of the protein. First, it is necessary to find structurally conserved regions (SCR) in the backbone. Next, place them in space with an orientation and conformation best matching those of the template. Single amino acid exchanges are assumed not to affect the tertiary structure. This often results in having sections of the model compound that are unconnected. [Pg.188]

In the single-domain state, many ferroelectric crystals also exhibit high optical nonlinearity and this, coupled with the large standing optical anisotropies (birefringences) that are often available, makes the ferroelectrics interesting candidates for phase-matched optical second harmonic generation (SHG). [Pg.203]
