GENSAT developed a Fezfl reporter mouse called the (Zfp312-EGFP)C061Gsat/Mmnc mouse line that we hereafter refer to as the Fezfl-GYP mouse. This reporter mouse offered an ideal opportunity to identify those projection neurons within the mature mouse cortex that expressed this master control gene and also allowed us to target them with electrophysiology. 

In some reptiles, and a small number of amphibians, sexual determination primarily depends upon temperature, not heterogamy. It has been postulated that thermal sex determination may not depend upon a master sex gene (such as MIS in mammals or DMRTI in birds) but rather upon a parliamentary system of control in which changes in the thermal environment within the egg lead to wholesale changes in enzymatic activity across many of the proteins responsible for sex determination.
