Marijuana Policy Project

In terms of illicit drugs, marijuana certainly generates the most controversy. As was seen in Chapter 3, there have been and are decriminalization initiatives domestically and abroad and 11 states have legalized marijuana for medical purposes. There are well-financed efforts to legalize marijuana for personal possession. For example, the Marijuana Policy Project, a nonprofit organization with thousands of members, has sponsored ballot initiatives in Nevada to legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana, and the activities of the Drug Policy Alliance on marijuana were mentioned in Chapter 3.
