Manganese dioxide suppliers

Active manganese dioxide is available commercially from a number of suppliers. It can also be prepared quite readily (see L. F. Fieser and M. Fieser, Reagents for Organic Synthesis, Wiley, Chichester, 1967, p. 637). 

Manganese dioxide, (b) active. Mol. wt. 86.93. Supplier Beacon Chem. Ind. The commercial material is prepared by a method different from those cited below it is essentially MnOj containing about 5% of water of hydration.

Different preparations of activated manganese dioxide (Mn02) are reported in the chemical literature. Generally, the commercially available material destined for catalyst use has suffered particle size adjustment (through grinding), acid (or base) washing to add or subtract surface protons, and heat treatment to remove adsorbed water. It is not uncommon to find that different batches of commercially obtained material (even from the same supplier) have different activites.
