Manganese dinitrogen complexes

In the next section, we will discuss several alkyldiazenido complexes which were obtained by alkylation of dinitrogen complexes with strongly nucleophilic alkylation reagents. At least one such case is also known for aryldiazenido complexes. Sellmann and Weiss (1978) showed that a (dinitrogen)manganese complex reacts with phenyllithium (see Sect. 3.3). 

The rhenium analog can be prepared by a similar route (302 ). However, unlike the manganese complex, (r/ -CsHjlRelCOMl i] readily disproportionates to the dinitrogen and ammonia complexes at room temperature. 

Apart from the compounds already mentioned, vanadium, manganese, and cobalt chlorides, tetra-alkoxy derivatives of titanium, acetylacetonates of V, Cr, Mo, Mn, and Ni, Cp derivatives of Zr and Nb, and triphenyl phosphine complexes of Ti and Fe were found to be active. Later lanthanide complexes were included in the list of dinitrogen-reducing systems, the most effective being compounds of samarium and yttrium.
