Note that thiols are especially malodorous and, even with proper precautions, their scent can adsorb onto the surface of gloves and clothing which enters and exits the fumehood environment and enter the room. Some very serious problems have been attributed to the use of chlorophenol insecticides to protect wood used in roof timbers and cellar insulation.
