Makrolon blends

Ford Sierra featured the first all-plastic bumper in Europe, and the Ford Taurus and Sable featured the first of these bumpers in the United States. The bumper is molded from GE s Xenoy polycarbonate (PC)/polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) blend. The high impact strength of PC, combined with the resistance to gasoline and oil and the processing ease of PBT, has boosted the use of PC/PBT blends in car bumpers. Bayer s PC/PBT blends are called Makrolon PR. They are used for several automobile impact-resistant parts. 

Makrolon Polycarbonate, PC, and impact-modified PC, containing <6 % butyl acrylate-methacrylate elastomer blends reinforced or not Bayer AG/Miles, Inc. 

PC Elastomer Idemitsu SC-150 Makrolon T-78 Novarex AM Idemitsu Petrochem. Bayer/Miles Mitsubishi Chem. The blends for extrusion or injection molding contain < 6 wt% elastomer (e.g., butyl acrylate-co-metbaciylate), thus are opaque. Iliey show low temperature tei hness, hieh imnact streneth. aood weld-line streneth. and HDT. 

Bisphenol-A-based polycarbonate is available in different blends which maybe adapted to specific requirements by use of additives. Different Makrolon grades from Bayer AG are designated by a four-digit code, of which the first two digits denote the molecular mass of the polymer (in 1000 g/mol) and accordingly provide information on its chain length. Thus, it may also be a rough classification of the fluidity of the material [5].
