Magnetic elements

Minerals normally considered nonmagnetic may be rendered magnetic by elemental substitution of a small amount of a magnetic element in the crystal lattice. Magnetic properties may also be affected by partial alteration in weathering effects. 

The generalized design flow for the magnetic elements is as follows. 

Other considerations enter into the operation of the magnetic element, such as the desired range of leakage inductance for each winding, electrostatic shielding, etc. (see Appendix D). These factors affect the size and cost of the final magnetic element. 

A salt of thulium can be made radioactive, and is used in medical X rays. Gadolinium is one of the few magnetic elements. 

In the past, electron energy calculations have failed dramatically for magnetic elements since spin polarisation was not included. However, this can now be taken into account quite extensively (Moruzzi and Marcus 1988b, 1990, Asada and Terakura 1993) and calculations can reproduce the correct groimd states for the magnetic elements.

As can be seen in Figure 6, Tc of RM2B2C compounds also much depends on the lattice parameters. As an example the dashed line represents the variation of Tc in a series with non-magnetic elements R. It should be noted that the effects of lattice parameters in Figure 6 cannot be explained by only taking into account the variation of N( p) in the expression (3), caused by the variation of the lattice parameters. In particular in CeN E C and YbN E C superconductivity is suppressed by strong hybridization of 4f electrons with conduction electrons (see Sections 4.2 and 4.12).

With a graphite target activated to 1.6 times modern ( prebomb ) activity, ion source controls, lenses, and other electrostatic and magnetic elements are set to optimize the rate in the detector. 

Iron is a silvery-white or grayish metal. It is ductile and malleable. Ductile means capable of being drawn into thin wires. Malleable means capable of being hammered into thin sheets. It is one of only three naturally occurring magnetic elements. The other two are nickel and cobalt.
