Magnesium metal carbonyl salts

Beryllium halides have been found to form complexes with several aldehydes, ketones and esters.74 Antipyrine, which acts as a monodentate carbonyl ligand, dissolves alkaline earth metal salts to give solid products of the type MX2-6ap (M24 = Mg, Ca, Sr X = C102 M24 = Mg, Ca X = BFT). The X-ray structure of Mg(C104)2-6ap confirms the monodentation and shows the magnesium to be octahedrally coordinated. 

The transesterification of DMT to BHET requires use of homogeneously dissolved metal salts, such as the acetates or alkoxides of calcium, magnesium, manganese, cobalt, zinc, sodium, lithium, lead, cerium and cadmium, and is run in the melt at 170-220 °C [18-20]. A mechanism in which the metal salt coordinates to the carbonyl oxygen of DMT, thereby enhancing the reactivity toward nucleophilic diol, is believed to occur during transesterification [21] (see Scheme 5). 

There are numerous compounds in tobacco and tobacco smoke that contain metals and nonmetals. No review articles have been published on these types of compounds in tobacco and smoke. In most papers, when they are mentioned, they are collectively called miscellaneous compounds. The compounds listed in Table XX-6 consist mainly of acid salts of sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, metal oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, and carbonyl-containing compounds, halide salts of... 

Secondly, as Professor House discussed in his book and papers, the importance of the nature of intermediary metal enolate in the acylation reaction should be taken into consideration. Thus the procedure for the preferable formation of a contact ion pair type of metal enolate by adding magnesium salt to the lithiated solution should be preferred for the acylation on carbon over oxygen. Thirdly, recent introduction of cyanoformate as soft electrophile would be preferable because C-16 plays as soft nucleophile while oxygen of carbonyl group as hard nucleophile.
