Ahmad studied specimens of an Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy designated 8090 in the form of specimens between 1 mm and 3 mm in thickness cut from an extruded bar of cross-sectional dimensions 51 mm x 25 mm. An XPS spectrum of the surface of a sample oxidized for 5 min at 530°C in air is shown in Figure 2.6. In addition to the peaks of carbon, oxygen and magnesium, there is a lithium (Li Is) peak at 56eV binding energy. [Pg.32]

Magnesium-air air cells with NaCl-electrolyte were developed and investigated. The current-voltage and the discharge characteristics of the cells with were studied. Air gas-diffusion electrodes suitable for operation in NaCl-electrolytes were designed. Various carbon-based catalysts for the electrochemical reduction were tested in these air electrodes. Magnesium alloys suitable for use as anodes in Mg-air cells were found. [Pg.136]

Notice however that for several common metal alloys (Mg, Al, Fe, etc.) special designation codes are used. As an example of the standard ASTM designation system, the codes used for the commercial magnesium alloys are shown in 5.12.4.5. [Pg.321]

As an example of a specific magnesium alloy code we may mention the alloy designated by AZ91E-T6. It contains A1 and Zn as principal alloying components. The... [Pg.478]

The primary benefit of magnesium in structural applications is its low density which is two-thirds that of aluminum. However, the use of magnesium alloys in the automotive sector continues to be restricted for more arduous applications where improved designs have increased component temperatures. Creep is considered a most important factor at working temperatures at or more than 423 K. [Pg.204]
