A recent report by Coldfine (1966) has implicated AGP in the biosynthesis of lysophosphatidic add from palmitoyl CoA and a-glycerolphosphate. The reaction involves both soluble and particulate cell fractions of E. coli extracts. This interesting finding raises the question of the possible function of acyl AGP derivatives in biosynthesis of the basic backbone of all the bacterial lipids (cf.. Section III, B, 1).
