Lyophilised substance

The reconstituted solutions are stable for short periods of time. The lyophilised substances should only be reconstituted in the recommended solutions. The PPIs cannot be added to other infusion solutions. Parenteral nutritional solutions have too low a pH, causing rapid degradation of the active drug. Other solutions for infusion contain different metal ions which will precipitate the PPI out of solution. 

Beck and Brink [232] have described a sensitive method for the routine assay of cobalamins in activated sewage sludge. The method involves extraction with benzyl alcohol, removal of interfering substances using a combination of gel filtration and chromatography on alumina, concentration of the extract by lyophilisation, and direct determination of total cobalamin by high performance liquid chromatography, in comparison with cobalamin standards. 

Tablets are defined in the Ph. Eur. as solid preparations each containing a single dose of one or more active substances [6]. Tablets are prepared by compressing tmiform volumes of particles or by another suitable manufacturing technique, such as extmsion, moulding or freeze-drying (lyophilisation). The Ph. Eur. distinguishes various types of tablets the most important being uncoated tablets, coated tablets, effervescent tablets, dispersible tablets, gastro-resistant tablets and modified-release tablets.
