The above structure is very different from that of the galactan associated with pectin in the seeds of Lupinus albus. This was shown to have a chain-length of 120 units.64 As no molecular weight measurements have been carried out on this material, it is not known whether the molecule is linear or branched. 

A crude preparation of a (1 — 4)-/3-D-galactanase from Sclerotium rolfsii72 hydrolyzed Lupinus albus D-galactan to D-galactose only this result indicates that this preparation may contain an exo-enzyme. 

So far as we are aware, the galactan associated with pectin has hitherto been isolated in a reasonable degree of purity in one instance only, namely from the seeds of Lupinus albus. This source contains a comparatively high proportion of the galactan component + 35° in... 

Pectin preparations usually show the presence of an araban and a galactan along i ith the pectic acid. By using methods that would not hydrolyze furanosidc linkings it has been possible to isolate an araban from the pectin of peanuts, apples, citnis fruits and from the seed of Lupinus albus. A galactan was also isolated from Lupinus albus.
