Luidia maculata

The same methods were utilized to determine the structures of two oligoglycosides (942) and (943) from Astropecten latespinosus after they had been desulfated by solvolysis 630), thornasteroside A (920) and a new saponin, versicoside A (944), from Asterias amurensis versicolor 631), and four new compounds, the luidiaglycosides A-D (945-948), from Luidia maculata 632, 633). Luidiaglycosides C (947) and D (948) contain the aglycones marthasterone and dihydromarthasterone which... [Pg.289]

The biological activities of the steroidal saponins from the Japanese starfish Acanthaster planci, Luidia maculata, and Asterias amurensis versicolor have been examined by Fusetani et al. (643) who investigated the effects of 17 saponines on fertilized sea urchin and starfish eggs. These compounds inhibited sea urchin embryos from further development in the morula stage, while starfish eggs were much more resistant. Some of these asterosaponins showed hemolytic effects. The authors discussed the relationship between the structure and the biological activity. [Pg.291]

Minale et al. investigated the starfish species Protoreaster nodosus 617, 650, 651), Hacelia attenuata 617, 626, 652), and Luidia maculata 653). Structure determination of these compounds, isolated from the methanol or chloroform-methanol extracts was based upon H- and... [Pg.295]
