Lubricants capacity

Methylthyenildichlorosilane is used to produce oligomethylthyenilsilox-ane liquids with improved lubricating capacity. [Pg.74]

PMS liquids have mediocre lubricating capacities for steel-on-steel friction, although some combinations of friction couples, e.g. bronze-on-steel, brass-on-plastic, perform satisfactorily if lubricated hydrodynamically with PMS liquids. The use of PMS as liquid media in oils and lubricants compounded with various antiwear additives and dispersions, creates favourable conditions for selective adsorption of additives on friction surfaces and helps to form an antiwear film which greatly increases the pressures and slip velocities. [Pg.167]

Of great importance nowadays are oligodi-methyl(methylthyenil)siloxanes (PMTS), liquids with an improved lubricating capacity and resistance to oil and petrol. [Pg.199]

The individual cooling lubricants vary in fulfilling the tasks of cooling and lubricating. The different cooling and lubricating capacities of the single media differently affect the process and the work result in relation to... [Pg.320]

The properties of polymers adsorbed at the solid-solution interface are relevant to a wide range of technical problems. For example, the addition of pol3mers to colloidal suspensions can significantly modify their stability. The formation of interparticle bridges by the adsorbed pol3mier can result in flocculation important in water purification, while the addition and adsorption of large amounts of polymer can stabilize a suspension and provide lubrication capacity. The application of polymer films for microencapsulation and polymer adhesives similarly depends on both the amount and conformation of adsorbed polymer. The importance of the conformation of the adsorbed polymer in these effects has been reviewed by a number of investigators. [Pg.44]

The VI is a number that results from a calculation involving the viscosities at 40°C and 100°C. It characterizes the capacity of the lubricant to maintain a constant viscosity through a large range in temperature. This property can be improved by additives. [Pg.282]

Various other soft materials without the layer—lattice stmcture are used as soHd lubricants (58), eg, basic white lead or lead carbonate [598-63-0] used in thread compounds, lime [1305-78-8] as a carrier in wire drawing, talc [14807-96-6] and bentonite [1302-78-9] as fillers for grease for cable pulling, and zinc oxide [1314-13-2] in high load capacity greases. Graphite fluoride is effective as a thin-film lubricant up to 400°C and is especially useful with a suitable binder such as polyimide varnish (59). Boric acid has been shown to have promise as a self-replenishing soHd composite (60). [Pg.250]

The uniqueness of methyl methacrylate as a plastic component accounts for its industrial use in this capacity, and it far exceeds the combined volume of all of the other methacrylates. In addition to plastics, the various methacrylate polymers also find appHcation in sizable markets as diverse as lubricating oil additives, surface coatings (qv), impregnates, adhesives (qv), binders, sealers (see Sealants), and floor poHshes. It is impossible to segregate the total methacrylate polymer market because many of the polymers produced are copolymers with acrylates and other monomers. The total 1991 production capacity of methyl methacrylate in the United States was estimated at 585,000 t/yr. The worldwide production in 1991 was estimated at about 1,785,000 t/yr (3). [Pg.259]

Poly(vinyl chloride). PVC is one of the most important and versatile commodity polymers (Table 4). It is inherently flame retardant and chemically resistant and has found numerous and varied appHcations, principally because of its low price and capacity for being modified. Without modification, processibiUty, heat stabiUty, impact strength, and appearance all are poor. Thermal stabilizers, lubricants, plasticizers, impact modifiers, and other additives transform PVC into a very versatile polymer (257,258). [Pg.420]

Sihcone oils are good hydrodynamic lubricants but have generally poor frictional lubricating properties (352—354). The latter can be improved by incorporating chlorophenyl groups into the polymer side chains (355). For steel on steel, the coefficient of friction is about 0.3—0.5. The load-bearing capacity of PDMS (Almen-Wieland machine) is only 50—150 kg, compared with - 1000 kg for polychlorophenyLmethylsiloxane and up to 2000 kg for mineral oil. [Pg.52]

Material strength is but one factor ia determining maximum load that can be carried by a beating material. Load capacity is equally related to design details, lubrication, and general appHcation experience. [Pg.2]

Sliding-Vane Type This type is illustrated in Fig. 10-81. These units are offered for operating pressures up to 0.86 MPa (125 IbFin") and in capacities up to 3.4 X 10 mVh (2000 ftVmin). Generally, pressure ratios per stage are limited to 4 1. Lubrication of the vanes is required, and the air or gas stream therefore contains lubricating oil. [Pg.929]

In many ways the pump is the heart of the lubrication system as it is the only active element. It must furnish sufficient capacity at a high... [Pg.309]
