Data sets are compilations of data, such as spectra or property tables. These data sets are often published serially as loose-leaf services, but the content is not always organized in chapters as in other serial publications. The citation of a serial data set should contain the title of the data set, the publisher, the place of publication, the date of the volume, the data entry number (as opposed to the data value), and the name of the figure or other identifying information. The page number can be included in the citation if page numbers are used in the index of the data set.

Use of loose-leaf abstract forms is of particular value in the continuous collection of data for supplements to existing searches or surveys. As two of its services, the Information Section issues a Weekly Literature Notification Bulletin, which calls attention to articles of interest in the current literature, and the Chemical Abstracts bulletin already mentioned. During the preparation of each, abstract forms are filled out for all articles on subjects for which supplements will eventually be... 

In 1944, both Natural a Synthetic Fibers 209) and Textile Technology Digest 214) were started. The former, edited by Harris and Mark, is a loose-leaf literature and patent service with full abstracts of selected articles. The latter, compiled by the Institute of Textile Technology, has relatively short abstracts and covers leading textile journals. 

With the coming of age of the industry, specialized abstract services have made their appearance. Probably the most thorough of these is offered in Natural and Synthetic Fibers" 21 edited by Harris and Mark. This compilation contains a good subject index and publishes detailed abstracts. The abstract pages are issued in loose-leaf form and may be filed in various ways depending on the needs of the library. The usefulness of these abstracts is, however, limited by the youth of the service—it was established in 1944.
