Logical labeling

In computers, information is represented by bits in electronic circuits. But any physical object with two clearly stable distinguishable states can represent a bit of information. A collection of such objects is a physical system where information can be stored and processed. Let us take a very simple object to work as a bit a coin. The head and tail states of a regular coin are very stable, and they can be associated to the usual logic labels of a bit 0 and T . How much information can be stored in a collection of coins For the sake of argument let us considerer 4 coins. Heads will be represented by an empty circle, and tails by a full circle. Let us associate the logic label 0 to heads, and 1 to tails. 

The association of the spin states with logical labeling can be done in real systems. For example, let us consider a solution of enriched chloroform, CHCl3. This system can be well approximated by two coupled spins Ii, h with spin Ii being the and spin I2 the H. The relevant NMR interactions are the Zeeman, chemical shifts and the /-coupling, which are represented by the following secular Hamiltonian (see Chapter 2) [2] ... 

The logical labeling scheme was also generalized for a -qubit [26] system with the advantage of using a smaller number of operations than the temporal or spatial averaging approaches. The disadvantage of this method is that the label spin cannot be used for the computation.

The rapid physical maturation that occurs between birth and adulthood is well known. Logically, it would be anticipated that these changes would result in altered responses to xenobiotics. Within the first 5 years of life 95% of children have been prescribed medications. Yet in 1977 only one third of the new molecular entities that have potential usefulness in pediatric patients had pediatric labeling at the time of approval. 

These blotting techniques are known by the names of compass directions (Southern, Northern, Western). Since Southern is a person s name, there s no logic in how the different blots were named. Southern developed a blot in which DNA on the blot is detected by a labeled DNA probe. It was then fairly logical that the next technique developed, detecting RNA on the blot with a DNA probe, should be called a Northern blot. A student was given 10 test tubes labeled 1-10. Each tube contained a different solution from the list above. From the information presented and the use of Appendix D, logically determine the contents of each test tube, write formulas of precipitates where necessary and support your reasoning. 

Following the logic of the deuterium labeling, regioisomers of cyclohexanones, cyclohexylamines, cyclohexylalcohols and others can be identified by strict application of the above mechanism. Regardless of some limitations of the method, e.g., that it is impossible to distinguish a 2,3-dimethyl from a 2-ethyl or 3-ethyl derivative, the method provides a valuable aid in structure elucidation. 

Much of the rapid growth in the consumption of foods labeled as organic may result from the perception among consumers that organic foods may be healthier than conventional foods. While some pesticides are allowed for use on organic foods, it is logical to assume that the pesticide residue profiles for organic and conventional foods should differ, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

The only logical basis for labeling a reaction practical is that it is one which if carried out cheaply enough could have commercial applications. Since it is impossible to discuss all reactions which fall into this category an effort was made to select a few which are typical of some of the broader unit processes.
