Lodosyn - Carbidopa

Carbidopa (Lodosyn ) CD blocks peripheral conversion of LD to DA and increases LD CNS penetration then 1/2 tab three times daily then, increase by 1/2 tab daily every week usual MD is 300-2000 mg daily since the duration of LD is 2 to 3 hours, patients may require doses every 2 hours... [Pg.479]

About 75 mg of carbidopa is required to effectively block L-AAD, but some patients may need more. Carbidopa/L-dopa is most widely used in a 25-mg/ 100-mg tablet, but 25-mg/250-mg and 10-mg/100-mg dosage forms are also available. Controlled-release preparations of carbidopa/L-dopa are available in 50-mg/200-mg and 25-mg/100-mg strengths. For patients with difficulty swallowing, an orally disintegrating tablet is available. If peripheral adverse effects are prominent, 25-mg carbidopa (Lodosyn) tablets are available. [Pg.646]

Carbidopa (Lodosyn) Diminishes decarboxylation of l-dopa in periphery tissues. Improve effect of l-dopa, decrease required dose of l-dopa by about 75%, i nausea and vomiting. Adjunct in Parkinson s disease. Does not alleviate most side effects caused by levodopa. Has no known toxicities when administered alone. [Pg.46]
