Loading Estimating CSR by site response analysis

The CSR is the imposed ACTION in the context of EC7/EC8. In more common engineering language it is the load on the soil. [Pg.285]

Most hydraulic fill projects will require a site-specific ground motion study in any area where the ground motions might exceed (say) 0.05 g in a 500 year period. These studies may range from a desk study for a few thousand to a full study including geological mapping, seismic source identification and advanced probabihstic [Pg.285]

Several sources and projects define the earthquake magnitude in different ways. Day (2002) and Youd et al. (2001) differentiate between the local magnitude (Ml), the surface wave magnitude (Mg) and the moment magnitude (My, ). The latter (M ) is defined as Mg in Eurocode, and best represents the energy associated with the earthquake. However it is concluded that below a value of 7 the magnitude are reasonably close to one another and there is no need to identify which scale is meant in design specifications. [Pg.286]

When no input is available the relation between the epicentral acceleration and the magnitude from a relation provided by Day (2002) can be used as a very rough initial assumption (Table 8.14). [Pg.286]

Local Magnitude ML Typical peak ground acceleration a near the vicinity of the fault rupture Typical duration of ground shaking near the vicinity of the fault rupture Modified Mercalli intensity level near the vicinity of the fault rupture [Pg.286]
