5 Ln Complexes having Donor-Functionalised Amido Ligands 

The title ligands are the monoanionic 10 (see Section 4.2.5), 26-29 and 54 (see also 79, 80 and 83), the dianionic 30-52 (see also 77) and the trianionic 53 (see also 84). These are chelating ligands, hence firmly bound to the Ln core. Their function has largely been that of supporting ligands. Some of them have had a role not only in /-block but also early d-block metal chemistry certain of the derived compounds have been examined as catalysts for a variety of organic chemical transformations. 

5-coordinate [Sc(36)(CH2SiMe3)(thf)] and Sc(35a)(CH2SiMe3)(thf) complexes were X-ray-characterised. Each of the 5-coordinate [Sc(35a)X(thf)] complexes effectively polymerised methyl methacrylate in a living manner affording mainly atactic P(MMA) at ambient temperature. 

The asymmetrically bridged diamido compound [ YbCp2(thf) 2 p-K2 K -C5H3N(NH)2-2,6 ], obtained from YbCp3 and 2,6-diaminopyridine in thf, with Pr N=C=NPr gave 

The yttrium compound with LiR gave the crystalline [Y(44) CH(SiMe3)2 ] or the oily CH2SiMe3 analogue From the latter and benzene, or the chloride and LiPh, the product was 67 Reduction of the Y or Lu chloride with KCg in toluene/diethyl ether in the presence of naphthalene, 2-MeC]oH7 or anthracene gave crystalline [ Ln(44) 2-(p-ri r -CioH7R)] (R = H orMe) or Ln(44) 2(p-r il -Ci4Hio)], which were fluxional in solution.
